What is Investment Management

Investment management refers to the selection and management of various securities (shares, bonds and other securities) and other assets in order to help an investor achieve his/her specific investment goals.

Asset management is another term that you may hear frequently, and it refers to the management of collective investments. And investment managers may refer to their services as money management or portfolio management if they specialize in advisory or discretionary management on behalf of private investors. Investment management may include services such as financial statement analysis, asset and stock selection, plan execution, and the continued monitoring of investments.

How can True Path Capital Strategies help me with investment management?

True Path Capital Strategies provides a comprehensive suite of investment management strategies carefully tailored to the individuals and families that we serve. We rarely use expensive strategies such as mutual funds, managed futures or hedge funds.  Decisions on investment vehicles and management strategies is generally a matter of conversation with our client.

These are the only two portfolio construction strategies we use:

  • Our general approach is to hire low-cost institutional-style money managers that use ETFs or individual securities only.
  • If appropriate, we will build customized portfolios for investors using individual securities only.

An investment in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), structured as a mutual fund or unit investment trust, involves the risk of losing money and should be considered as part of an overall program, not a complete investment program. An investment in EFTs involved additional risks including potentially some of the following: not diversified, the risk of price volatility, competitive industry pressure, international political and economic developments, possible trading halts, Index tracking error.

What are True Path’s core investment management principles?

We know that you are working hard to achieve your personal, family and financial goals. That’s why we are very selective about the investments that we recommend for your portfolio. While ultimately, the decisions are yours, we are here to help you make appropriate investment choices. In thee end, you and your financial advisor will work together to choose investments that focus on your goals, your life and your tolerance for risk.

  • Asset Allocation:
The mixture of stocks, bonds, and cash, is the primary driver of a portfolio’s volatility, risk and long-term performance.
  • Diversification:
We believe a well-diversified portfolio will include a range of asset classes providing exposure to various companies, industries and countries.
  • Liquidity:
A well-structured portfolio must be liquid. We will not compromise liquidity with assets invested in our RIA business.
  • Portfolio Rebalancing:
We periodically rebalance portfolios to maintain the target asset allocation and desired portfolio risk.
  • Costs:
Lower costs help close the gap between actual asset class returns and portfolio outcomes. Eliminating unnecessary costs is a controllable factor.
  • Tax Efficiency:
We consider the impact on your taxes when structuring, implementing, rebalancing, and making changes to a portfolio.
  • Asset Location:
Not all assets are taxed equally. It’s critical to understand how the asset is taxed in both taxable and tax-deferred accounts, and then strategize accordingly.
  • Discipline:
Stay the course, and ignore the daily gyrations of the traded market. Focus on what can be managed … the costs, the taxes, and the emotions.

We operate with absolute integrity in all endeavors.
